stockport’s robinson’s brewery invited us to sing at their open evening on friday 26 jan. it was a great success with a small but appreciative audience. robinson’s organiser, olivia was especially pleased with the evening. she will be leaving the brewery site soon to run a robinson’s pub in hale barns. she provisionally booked us to sing at her pub in a few months’ time. details to follow. new members welcomed john tyldesley (photo, left) sings bass and has a son steve singing lead. john used to sing with tydeswell male voice choir. david (photo, right) has many years experience with choirs. chairman, simon cashmore performed the award of membership certificate and personalised tee shirt. a very warm welcome to you both! 13th january show was a blast! spring bank arts centre proved to be an ideal venue for our barbershop show. the acoustics were perfect and all five acts excelled. below are pictures from the show. we do not have a photo of affinity all stars, but we do have a video. click here to view! harmony revival headline show on 13 january the line up is more that shown above; harmony revival a well established barbershop chorus who have been together for over 40 years. they will be sharing with you a selection of their favourite songs including ‘leaning on a lamppost’, ‘for me and my girl and nevertheless, songs that helped harmony revival have a very successful 2017. they gained bronze for most improved chorus at the national barbershop convention and were pipped at the post by affinity – see below – when affinity got gold and harmony revival got silver at the north wales choral competition in llandudno. the four pops not to be confused with the motown legends! the four pops will perform popular songs including under the boardwalk and when i’m 64. the quartet members are all local; ian grimshaw (lead), neil firth (bass), alan gee (baritone), and standing in at short notice, lance pryce (tenor). halo halo are a 4 part harmony quartet, based in stockport, cheshire. their songs include california dreaming and amazing grace. they are dressed in white in the photo below. they are: debbie (lead), kirsten (bass), nicola (baritone) and jane (tenor). sk4 we extend heartfelt thanks to sk4 for stepping in at short notice to regale us with their entertaining songs. they enjoy the camaraderie of singing together, including the social side but also love to perform and entertain audiences. included in tonight’s songs are a couple of barbershop ballads, two queen songs and a number from grease. they are dressed in black in the photo below. also from stockport they are alison (tenor), kate (lead), lynne (bari) and carolyn (bass). affinity young stars finally we extend a huge thank you to affinity show choir. they do so much to promote barbershop in our area including running a youth development programme and i’m very pleased that their youth programme ‘affinity young stars’ are making their debut tonight performing contemporary numbers under the careful guidance of their musical director jen who has been working so hard to provide a fun and confidence building experience for budding young singers. tickets are available from spring bank arts centre, new mills, sk22 4bh. t 01663 308202 e: [email protected] or wegotickets.com/springbank doors open at 7pm. see you there! barbershopper of the year 2017 tony johnston was chosen as barbershopper of the year 2017 in recognition of his promotion of the club. the photo below shows him with the barbershopper of the year shield presented by chorus director, jack haslam. well done tony! carers of dementia sufferers receive cash boost the singout on 15th december raised £399.12. on 19 december harmony revival sang at a dinner in support of this charity. the dinner was at the pinewood hotel near wilmslow. as part of our performance we presented a cheque for £399.21. singout friday 15 december. sing out for our charity, carers of dementia sufferers, at handforth dean shopping centre sk9 3rw between 2 and 4pm. later in the evening, from about 7pm the singing will continue around a few pubs close to and including the 3 tunnes hazel grove, sk7 4dq. come and meet us!
